January 2021: Monthnote
Hello chumz. I don't feel like enough happens in my life to warrant weekly updates, so going to try covering the whole month of January instead.
On Current Affairs
-
What's his face has gone. I have news fatigue now.
-
Roused by the revolution of the ravenous Redditors, I invested £100 in Dogecoin on the morning on Friday, beguiled by the prospect of becoming an overnight millionaire. At the time of writing, it's worth £73.69. Beware the wisdom of masses.
-
My parents and grandma have now recieved at least one dose of the COVID vaccination. Even in the depths of lockdown, I still managed to bump in to someone I know while taking my dad to get vaccinated. But it was dark and they were wearing a mask, so I have no idea who it was. If perchance you are reading this: hello, friend, good to see you too.
-
An influx of people I know decided to join Signal this month. I thoroughly look forward to having a secure platform to not talk to anyone on.
On Socialising.
-
Having said that, this month I've spoken to a whopping twenty unique people (outside of work / family).
-
Of those, only one was a video call. We played Sporcle.
-
Two of those were IRL, a chance encounter on the way back from strolling in the snow.
On Personal Growth
-
The initial spurt of writing last month has dwindled. Perhaps I've run out of stories to tell. Or perhaps the excitement of owning a domain has worn off.
-
Last night I had a nightmare, where there were (harmless) large insects littered around the floor. TO resolve this in the dream, I scrubbed and hoovered like my life depended on it. So naturally when I woke up this morning, I scrubbed and hoovered like my life depended on it.
-
This month I added a digital piano to my ensemble of 13.7 instruments. This one is going to be different I swear.
-
I've lost nearly 5kg of weight since the start of the year. Having exhausted all other forms of leisure over the last 9 months, I resorted to the desperate hobby of "giving a shit about myself". I did gain 0.5kg overnight though. I think it was the tea I had.
-
Part of that weight loss may be a result of an unprecedentedly moist January - with only two cans of beer consumed. It's amazing how reading the nutritional information of foods makes you question all of your life decisions.
-
I started playing Pokémon Red again. Got up until Saffron City before the enchantment started to fade. Despite having all the time in the world right now, ain't nobody got time for 11 floors of Silph Co.
-
I read maybe 50 pages of a book (I Am Pilgrim) before giving up.
-
I made a house of cards. Actually this was a real fucking achievement that I'm super proud of.
On Work
-
A common theme this month has been how this lockdown has felt a lot tougher than the previous one.
-
Our survival strategy has been copious amounts of Among Us. As far as survival goes, we're not very good at surviving.
-
I started preparing some slides resembling something like a tech strategy for the year, but ran out of Leadership Hit Points half way through. It was going to be dope though, I had a whole Marvel Cinematic Universe theme going.
-
It doesn't matter though, there's more than enough Strategy going around.
That's all for this month folks. If there's a common theme throughout several of these ruminations, it is that I am notoriously bad at completing what I start - so don't wait up for the next one of these!
